FAIRFIELD — For the first time since 2011, the Fairfield-Suisun School District has a participant in the Sac-Joaquin Section football playoffs. Off the strength of its 7-3 record, Rodriguez High qualified as 10th seed in Division III and will play at No. 7 Christian Brothers of Sacramento (6-4, 3-3 Capital Athletic League). The Mustangs were the last FSUSD team to make the postseason, being blasted by Pleasant Grove of Elk Grove in the first round in 2011, 57-13. Fairfield last qualified for the playoffs in 2009, Armijo in 1937 – six years before the Sac-Joaquin Section was formed. There was a delay in the release of the Division III bracket as CAL champion Capital Christian sought to have its postseason ban because of involvement in club football activities during the pandemic overturned, but its suit against the Sac-Joaquin Section was denied.
